Step into a powerful space where history, myth, and art converge. Organized by the Jewish History Museum of the Republic of Moldova, The Golem of the Crematorium is an extraordinary visual exhibition created by artist Naum Sint Nicolaas.
Reimagining the historic October 7, 1944 Sonderkommando Revolt at Auschwitz-Birkenau through the lens of magical realism, the exhibition presents a series of mixed-ink and watercolor works imagining the prisoners secretly fashioning a Golem out of clay and crematoria ashes—turning the ancient Jewish myth of protection into a final, courageous symbol of resistance against oblivion.
This striking visual narrative is paired with the evocative poetry of Rosamond Van Wingerden and an original score composed by Pieter Sint Nicolaas. Drawing on the Kaddish, Yiddish poetry, and early Yiddish cinema, the project creates an unforgettable dialogue between memory, art, and mourning.
